Why I love being a hypnotherapist
It's funny because I remember watching Paul McKenna on TV
when I was younger and thinking he was some kind of magician! I was
amazed by what he could do.
I never thought I would become a hypnotherapist, but I always wanted to help people, and when I discovered how effective hypnosis can be at helping people overcome fears, phobias, stress, depression and all manner of limitations, I decided- yes, hypnotherapy is what I want to do.
I am a member of the Hypnotherapy Association, a professional organisation for ethical use of hypnosis, I hold a diploma in Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis, and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, which is awarded by the National Council for Hypnotherapy. (NCH).
What can it do for you?
Hypnotherapy is empowering for you, because it gives you skills that you can use for the rest of your life- so if you want to be free of a phobia, overcome panic attacks, stress, anxiety, or lose weight and enhance your self esteem- hypnotherapy can help you achieve this. It promotes peace of mind.
The wonderful thing about hypnosis is that the changes made when you decide to give hypnotherapy a go are beneficial and can even, with the right treatment, be permanent. The changes made come from within- they are not dependent on outer cirumstances, or upon a pill that you have to take. The good feelings hypnosis gives you have no side-effects- aside from increased happiness and stress relief across many or even all areas of life!
If however you do have a medical condition and you need medication, that's nothing to be ashamed of. Hypnotherapy is known as a complementary therapy because it works alongside allopathic medicine- i.e. it complements it- in fact hypnotherapy can often enhance such treatment, because it is a holistic approach that takes into account you as a whole person, along with your life-circumstances and relationships- all of which can be enhanced to new levels of peace, harmony and understanding with hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy can help you feel better about yourself and your life. I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoy being a hypnotherapist- because that magic I saw Paul McKenna doing for entertainment- I see that same magic being made in my client's lives- it makes me feel happy to feel that I've helped someone improve something that was bothering them and holding them back in life. It's nothing like making people act like frogs or have x-ray vision (though I suspect some people might like that!). Hypnotherapy- when being done for therapy rather than entertainment- is about empowering you to be the best you can be. I love it because I see profound and lasting changes- people who once had limiting phobias, low self esteem, depression, panic attacks, stress- gently but very definitely becoming more confident, liking who they are and how they feel, feeling happier and healthier, and becoming free of panic, anxiety and stress.
How can hypnosis help me to feel better and assist me in overcoming problems?
If you are wondering how hypnosis can possibly do all these wonderful things, please take some time to read the information on this website. You will come to a better understanding of how hypnotherapy works- but the best way to find out its true benefits is to actually experience it! So, if you would like to experience freedom from fear, anxiety, low self esteem, depression- if you would like more confidence, more self-belief, if you want to enjoy life more- hypnotherapy can bring you this gift- the gift of being how you'd like to be, and feeling how you'd like to feel.
Hypnosis can help you learn to relax and cope more calmly and capably with things.
In this stress filled society- that is a very valuable skill to have!
What hypnosis really is
It's a pleasant state of focused awareness, like being engrossed in a good book or movie. I have no power or control over you- I am merely a guide to help you achieve whatever it is that you'd like to achieve- you might want to lose weight, stop smoking, you might have low self esteem and be hoping for more confidence- or you may have been bereaved- hypnotherapy is a wonderfully freeing method for all these things and more. It can help you overcome the pain of grief and bereavement, it can enhance your confidence, your health and well-being- allowing you to overcome fear, phobias, feeling down.
Freedom begins with your mind- you are always in control- and the techniques I teach you empower you to handle life better and feel happier and more content.
How does it work?
I am sure you have heard of the subconscious mind. I'd like to tell you more about it, and how it can work for you in hypnosis!
It is the part of your mind that controls the way you are. When your subconscious accepts hypnotic suggestions (e.g. "you grow more calm and less stressed with every day that goes by") it allows them to become increasingly true in your life. You get more of what you focus on, so by having hypnosis- your mind is trained to focus on the feelings you want to have- and so you get more of them.
So, if you want to feel more confident- once you experience feeling more confident whilst in hypnosis- your subconscious mind accepts that you can be this way and so you will find yourself enjoying increased confidence in your daily life too.
What you imagine, you can become
In hypnosis, you imagine yourself being the way you'd like to be, and get in touch with how good that would feel. Reinforcing this allows your subconscious to accept that you are this way- because it doesn't know the difference between what's real and what's imagined. For example, if you close your eyes and imagine cutting open a juicy lemon... feeling the texture of the skin... the knife sliding in, the zesty smell- and then put that lemon to your mouth and suck it- well if you got into imagining that- you'll find yourself making some kind of 'sour face', because your subconscious mind responds as if you are really sucking a lemon, even though you're not.
So- if you imagine being confident- you naturally become more confident. Hypnosis is like practice- I help you get rid of the thoughts and feelings that keep you stuck and trapped in old ways of thinking, feeling and being, and then you practice the new ways of thinking, feeling and being whilst in hypnosis. The hypnotic state gets your subconscious mind to allow you to feel more of the feelings you want to feel (such as happiness, calm, confidence, peace), have more of the thoughts that reinforce good feelings, and thus enable you to live your life feeling more like the person you want to be- whether that's a happy person, a confident person, a slim person, a non-smoker- hypnosis can help you to achieve it and become that person- the you that you want to be!
Your subconscious mind can be your best friend
I will teach you how to make your subconscious mind your very best friend, by teaching you how to use your conscious mind to positively influence it. Your subconscious is a faithful servant of your conscious- so if you constantly think of something that you fear or that is stressful, then your subconscious mind automatically prepares you for that event- even if it's something that may never happen! So, you feel stressed, anxious, scared etc.
However, it works in the opposite way too. The techniques I teach empower you to feel good- not just when you're in the room with me having hypnosis, but when you're out there in 'the real world'.
Your subconscious can learn to do what you tell it to do, allowing you to feel how you want to feel
In hypnosis, you are basically learning how to program your subconscious mind to allow you to be the best you can be. It's important to remember that the subconscious mind ALWAYS works to protect you. It will never accept any suggestions that do not benefit you. Since it works to protect you, there is no need to worry about things being 'uncovered' in hypnosis that you are not ready to face, as your inner mind will only bring things up in hypnosis which it knows you are ready to deal with. It will always keep you safe.
